The focus for this module will be on sustainability. It is a problem that we all face, and big companies, even design companies, have a part to play in it all too. With sustainability being widely discussed and people taking action to help combat clime change, design companies can see that to reach their target audience, they need to help to make a change for our earth. There is many articles about how effective design can aid sustainability, for example IDEO wrote “What’s good for people and the planet is increasingly good for business.”
Reading through IDEO’s article it shows a clear understanding that companies are now focusing on sustainable work and how understanding the actions that need to be taken to ensure a cleaner and sustainable future will appeal to more customers and stakeholders. For example, we are seeing an increase in big clothing companies such as Zara and H&M, bring in climate-conscious clothing lines created using recycle materials. As well as using recyclable shipping packaging for online shopping orders.
We are gonna to explore as designers, how we can intertwine sustainability and design.
ChangeMakers Sustainability Passport
With a focus on the sustainability, we are to design a digital product for a user/s of our choice. The product will be based on one or more of these specific areas;
With this project it differs from any other previous project as it has been sent it from an actual company called ChangeMakers. This is a company based in Donegal who “aims to raise awareness, understanding and most importantly action for a more fair and just world. We connect with adults throughout county Donegal through a broad range of activities.”
With this project brief it has a lot of specific deliverables that at first seem very overwhelming. The list is long and specific however, we have some leniency with not having to have all the deliverables done or else create our own product that isn’t on the list but ticks all the project’s boxes. **Within this brief is does mention that we should refer to the UN Sustainable Development Goals when creating our content and this is great since are last project in IXD301 was on the Sustainable Development Goals. With my previous research on that I feel a bit more confident on the brief.
After going through the brief in class I honestly was feeling quite nervous as it feels like a lot for a project in terms of the amount of deliverables that are expected. There are a few that could be grouped into one deliverable but there is still a lot to be done.
